Orosei is a warm, unhurried town of golden-stone churches and sun-baked lanes, set back from a 40-kilometre stretch of protected coastline. It's the friendly gateway to the Gulf of Orosei. A run of white-sand beaches, limestone cliffs and sea caves that many call the most beautiful in the Mediterranean.
Come for a few days and you'll swim in impossibly clear water, wander a centuries-old historic centre, walk among Bronze-Age nuraghi and hike into the Supramonte. All without the crowds of Sardinia's flashier resorts.

Santa Maria 'e Mare
Orosei's beloved patron of the sea. On the last Sunday of May, flower-decked boats (“Sa Mutatura”) process down the Cedrino river to the sea. The town's most magical day.
Holy Week
Sardinia's most moving rites: hooded confraternities, candle-lit processions and ancient chants wind through the old town in the run-up to Easter.
San Giacomo Maggiore
The feast of the town's patron saint fills Piazza del Popolo and the parish church with Mass, music and celebration in high summer.
Sant'Antonio Abate
Midwinter is marked by great bonfires lit in the squares for Saint Anthony. Warmth, wine and company on the coldest nights.

May and June suit longer days outdoors; September often combines beach days with quieter streets. October can be pleasant, but sea conditions and seasonal services are less predictable.
Where to stay in Orosei
You could book a big resort further up the coast. But Orosei's charm is in staying like a local: a quiet holiday house with a garden or a sea view, your own kitchen for market produce, and the town's beaches and lanes on your doorstep.

How to get to Orosei
The essentials first-timers ask about most. So you can spend less time planning and more time in the water.
Getting here
Fly into Olbia (OLB), about an hour and a half north, or Cagliari (CAG), roughly 2.5 hours south. Olbia, Cagliari and Alghero airports all operate year-round. Ferries also serve Olbia and Golfo Aranci from mainland Italy.
Getting around
A rental car is well worth it. The best beaches are spread along the coast, 10–30 minutes apart. The old town itself is easy on foot.

Everyday essentials
Unlike many seasonal resorts, Orosei is a lived-in town all year round, so its supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs and bakeries stay open in every season. Plus a weekly market. Just stock up before beach days, as many coves have no shops.
